Man Kills Wife, Maims Daughter Over Other Daughter's Love Match.

'Ever fallen in love with someone you shouldn't have fallen in love with?' This is a question posed by The Buzzcocks in the 1970s & one, to which, many a girl from a Muslim family can answer 'Yes!' that is, of course, if they survive. Kalsoom Bibi did survive, it was her mother who died, as reported by the Birmingham Mail yesterday (hat-tip to Tommy Robinson @TRobinsonNewEra):

Father started fatal blaze after daughter planned 'love marriage', court told A father-of-three left furious when his daughter decided to marry for love killed his wife when he torched the family home, a court heard. Mohammed Inayat wanted Kalsoom Bibi to have an arranged marriage instead, Birmingham Crown Court was told. A jury heard Inayat ignited petrol in seven different parts of his house in Cateswell Road, Yardley, early on April 17 – the day Miss Bibi was due to fly to her lover in Dubai. His wife Naika died of carbon monoxide poisoning and another of his daughters, who jumped from a bedroom window, suffered 50 per cent burns, the court heard. Philip Bennetts QC, prosecuting, said Inayat had previously threatened to kill Miss Bibi, who was due to marry on April 20. He told the jury: "You will hear about the intention of Kalsoom Bibi to marry a man she had fallen in love with. "For this defendant a love marriage was not appropriate. He was traditional in his beliefs and marriage should be arranged. "Not to do so would bring dishonour on the family." Mr Bennetts added: “The fire had been started deliberately. Petrol had been deposited in seven places and ignited. "By the time the fire brigade arrived, the fire had already caused substantial damage." Mr Bennetts said Inayat's three daughters and one of their friends escaped by jumping out of bedroom windows, although they were injured in the fall. But his wife could not get out. Inayat, 56, has denied murder, four charges of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life. Mr Bennetts said Miss Bibi initially travelled in secret to Dubai to see her lover but the family discovered the relationship last December. He said her father was angry and had threatened to kill her, although Miss Bibi was supported by her mother.
